G Adventures Unveils New Expedition Ship for Antarctic Journeys

Adventure travel operator G Adventures has announced the addition of a new expedition cruise vessel, the Ocean Adventurer, to its fleet for the upcoming Antarctic season. Chartered through Danish maritime company SunStone (and operated under a charter by USA-based polar cruise company Quark Expeditions), the Ocean Adventurer will replace the company’s current ship, the Expedition, and is scheduled to commence operations in October 2025.

The Ocean Adventurer will accommodate up to 128 guests and features 70 cabins, a restaurant, a bar, a presentation lounge, a library, a fitness area, and an observation and sun deck with outdoor jacuzzis. The vessel is equipped with 11 Zodiacs, facilitating two daily excursions for passengers.

In line with G Adventures’ commitment to environmental sustainability, the Ocean Adventurer has undergone significant renovations, including the installation of new engines, resulting in improved fuel efficiency. The company estimates that the transition to this new vessel will reduce the overall carbon footprint per person per day by up to 30%.

The ship has been built to Ice Class 1A standards, enhancing safety and maneuverability in polar regions. Additionally, it features updated stabilizers to provide a smoother sailing experience, particularly during challenging crossings.

The Ocean Adventurer will operate five Antarctic itineraries, including the 11-day Antarctica Classic, the 21-day Spirit of Shackleton, and the 22-day Falklands, South Georgia, and Antarctica journey.

G Adventures’ founder, Bruce Poon Tip, stated that the introduction of the Ocean Adventurer represents a significant advancement for the company’s polar program, allowing for continued delivery of expedition experiences while aligning with environmental objectives.
