Regal Princess to Undergo Preventive Maintenance – Cruise Industry News

Princess Cruises informed guests that the Regal Princess is scheduled to undergo critical preventive maintenance during some of its upcoming sailings.

As a result, the ship’s itineraries in the Western Caribbean will need to be adjusted, the company said in a prepared statement.

“As part of our commitment to ensuring your safety, comfort and a seamless sailing experience, we’d like to inform you of a necessary adjustment to the itinerary for your upcoming voyage,” Princess said.

Affected sailings include cruises scheduled to depart from Galveston on Dec. 8, 2024, Jan. 5 and Jan. 12, 2025.

As part of the adjustments, Princess is replacing a planned visit to Costa Maya, Mexico, with an extended stay in Roatán, Honduras.

Instead of departing in the afternoon as originally scheduled, the Regal Princess will now set to remain docked at the destination overnight.

“This adjustment will allow us the necessary time in port to complete critical preventive maintenance while ensuring the continued smooth operation of the ship throughout your vacation and future voyages,” the company added.

According to Princess, affected passengers will be able to cancel their cruises for a full refund, including any pre-purchased shore excursions, air travel booked through Princess and other related purchases.

Guests who choose to sail as planned will receive a 20 percent future cruise credit (FCC), which can be applied toward a future cruise with Princess.

“While we understand that changes to the itinerary are unexpected, we’re confident that the beauty and charm of Roatán will offer an exceptional experience,” Princess said.

Pre-purchased shore excursions for Costa Maya will be automatically refunded to their original form of payment, the company added.

After completing a trans-Atlantic crossing from Europe, the Regal Princess was taken out of service in late October due to power generator issues.

Three cruises had to be cancelled to complete repairs onboard the vessel, which originally entered service in 2014.
