Six Cruise Ships to Gather in Rio de Janeiro for Copacabana’s Fireworks – Cruise Industry News

Six cruise ships are set to gather in Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana for the town’s traditional New Year’s Eve festivities.

The lineup includes ships from Costa Cruises and MSC Cruises, which will anchor in front of the Brazilian beach ahead of a 12-minute firework display that is set to start at midnight on Jan. 1, 2025.

The six vessels are set to bring over 19,500 passengers to the celebration, in addition to roughly 7,500 crew members.

Spending New Year’s Eve in Copacabana for the first time, the MSC Grandiosa will be the biggest ship on the scene.

Two additional MSC ships, the MSC Orchestra and the MSC Poesia, will also visit Copacabana for the firework display.

Sailing from Argentina and Uruguay, the Poesia anchors at the beach as part of a nine-night cruise to destinations in Brazil, such as Ilhabela and Búzios.

The MSC Orchestra is offering an eight-night cruise to Brazil’s Northeast region that features visits to Salvador and more.

Chartered to PromoAção, the MSC Seaview will sail to the beach as part of a three-night themed cruise that includes concerts by local artists and bands.

Costa Cruises will also be present with two vessels: the Costa Favolosa and the Costa Deliziosa. The latter arrives in Rio as part of Costa’s 2024-25 world cruise.

After departing from Italy earlier this month, the 2010-built ship will spend New Year’s Eve in Copacabana for the first time.

As part of its 130-night global journey, the Deliziosa is also set to dock in Rio de Janeiro’s Pier Mauá Cruise Terminal for a two-day visit.

Based in Argentina for the season, the Favolosa visits Copacabana during an eight-night cruise that also sails to Ilhabela, Balneário Camboriú and Montevideo.
