Silver Spirit Marks 15 Years of Service – Cruise Industry News
The Silver Spirit recently completed its 15th year of service for Silversea Cruises after being delivered by the Fincantieri shipyard on Dec. 12, 2009.
Then the largest cruise ship ever built for the brand, the 540-guest ship embarked on its maiden cruise later that month, on Dec. 23, 2009.
Sailing from Barcelona, Spain, to Lisbon, Portugal, the 11-night voyage was followed by a trans-Atlantic crossing.
Following a few itineraries in the Caribbean and a christening ceremony in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 21, the Silver Spirit embarked on a 91-day voyage named “The Spirit of South America,” which sailed to 45 destinations in over 20 countries and islands across two continents.
The itinerary was highlighted by overnight stays in Fort Lauderdale, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Punta Arenas, Lima, Acapulco and Los Angeles.
After nearly ten years sailing, the Silver Spirit returned to Fincantieri in 2018 for a major refit, which included stretching the ship with a new 49-foot long midsection, which added 12 percent to the ship’s guest capacity.
Following the work, the Silver Spirit emerged with eight dining venues, an enlarged pool deck, an upgraded spa and more.
The vessel’s staterooms, as well as other public areas, also received a fresh look inspired by Silversea’s newer ships.
Currently cruising in South Africa and the Indian Ocean, the Silver Spirit is scheduled to reposition to the Mediterranean for a series of spring cruises. The Spirit then repositions to Northern Europe for a summer deployment.
In early December, the vessel returns to the Caribbean for itineraries departing from Barbados and Fort Lauderdale.
