AIDAblu Marks 15 Years of Service for AIDA Cruises – Cruise Industry News

Delivered to AIDA Cruises on February 4, 2010, the AIDAblu has recently celebrated its 15th year with the  brand.

As the fourth ship in the company’s Sphinx Class series, the 71,300-ton vessel was built by the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

According to the shipbuilder, the ship features a design tailored to the German market, offering comfortable interiors and state-of-the-art technology.

When it entered service, the AIDAblu featured the first-ever brewery at sea, Meyer Werft said, as well as the largest spa and wellness center onboard a cruise ship.

Other highlights of the ship’s design include a higher number of cabins with private balconies, in addition to five suites that feature a Japanese-style design.

After being delivered to AIDA from the yard, the AIDAblu sailed to Hamburg for a christening celebration.

With designer Jette Joop serving as the vessel’s godmother, the ceremony took place on February 9, 2010.

The 2,174-guest ship later sailed to Palma de Mallorca in Spain, where it officially kicked off its maiden season in the Mediterranean.

Currently cruising in the Canary Islands and Madeira, the AIDAblu is scheduled to return to the region for the 2025 summer season.

Sailing in the Eastern Mediterranean, the vessel offers a series of seven- to 14-night cruises departing from Corfu in Greece and Trieste in Italy.

Initially set to visit the island of Santorini, the itineraries were recently amended to replace the destination.

In November, the ship repositions to the Caribbean for a winter deployment that includes two-week cruises sailing from Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.

After another summer season in the Eastern Mediterranean in 2026, the AIDAblu is scheduled to offer cruises in the Canary Islands and Madeira for the 2026-27 winter.

Following the AIDAblu, AIDA Cruises took delivery of three additional Sphinx Class ships, with the AIDAsol entering service in 2011, the AIDAmar debuting in 2012, and the AIDAstella welcoming guests in 2013.
