Drew Barrymore Named Godmother of New MSC World America – Cruise Industry News

MSC Cruises has announced that actress Drew Barrymore will serve as the godmother of the new MSC World America. The ship will be officially named during a ceremony on April 9 at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, the largest in the world.

During the event, Barrymore will cut the ribbon to initiate the traditional champagne bottle-breaking on the ship’s bow. She will be joined by actor Orlando Bloom, her co-star in MSC Cruises’ U.S. television and national brand campaign, Let’s Holiday, which premiered during this year’s Super Bowl.

Suzanne Salas, executive vice president of marketing, e-commerce and sales, said: “As a family company with over 300 years of seafaring heritage, these events hold a special and personal significance for us. We value the important maritime tradition where our Godmother breaks a bottle of champagne on the hull and officially names the ship, bringing good luck and protection. Drew is the perfect Godmother for MSC World America, and we are thrilled to continue to partner with her for this campaign. She embodies our brand perfectly, with her exquisite style and grace, and her passion for the comfort and adventure we find through travel.”

Barrymore added: “When MSC Cruises asked me to be the Godmother of MSC World America, I immediately said yes! I absolutely love to travel—it fuels my soul—and being part of something that helps people set off on incredible adventures is just amazing. There’s something so magical about cruises; they let you discover the world in this really fun, unexpected way. And to be able to name MSC World America and send the ship off with well wishes and good luck is such an honour.”

Following the naming ceremony, the MSC World America will embark on a three-night voyage to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises’ private island in the Bahamas, which Barrymore and Bloom visited for the company’s “Let’s Holiday” campaign.

At Ocean Cay, the MSC Foundation will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Marine Conservation Centre. The facility will serve as a research hub for scientists and students involved in the Foundation’s Super Coral Programme and offer guests insights into efforts to restore coral reefs affected by climate change.

The MSC World America will be the first in the fleet to feature seven onboard districts, including The Harbour, an outdoor family venue with the Cliffhanger over-water swing ride, a ropes course, a water park, a playground, relaxation areas and complimentary grab-and-go dining.
