The Costa Diadema and MSC Seaview, with a combined capacity of over 9,500 passengers, are to be repurposed as floating hotels. Sources indicate that these vessels will be stationed at the Outeiro port from November 5 until November 22—with operations extending by one day beyond the official summit closure—thereby accommodating international delegations.
Government representatives have highlighted these plans during a briefing attended by emissaries from 103 embassies in Brasília. The presentation stressed the nation’s comprehensive readiness to host what is recognized as the largest annual event under the United Nations. In keeping with the extensive preparations, photographic evidence of the cruise ships has been shared with foreign delegates, underscoring the commitment to robust logistical planning.
Additionally, the Belém waterway terminal is set to double in size to act as the primary reception facility for ship-based guests. Alongside the maritime facilities, local plans include providing an extra 400 rooms in the Vila de Lideres specifically for official delegations, with further accommodations to be sourced from hotels, private residences, and apartment rentals across the city—collectively targeting around 32,000 beds to support the influx of conference participants.
