Ambassador to Host ORCA’s Marine Wildlife Protection Training Workshop – Cruise Industry News

Ambassador Cruise Line, in partnership with marine conservation charity ORCA, is launching a new initiative to train future Ocean Conservationists, according to a press release.

The program, set to take place aboard the Ambition during its Marvels of France, Portugal and Spain itinerary in June 2025, is part of ORCA’s mission to protect whales, dolphins and other marine life through education and research.

The initiative will see 24 trainees undergo practical training onboard the ship. The first group of 12 trainees will sail from Bristol to Cadiz from June 13 to 22, 2025, with the second group completing the return leg from June 22 to 29, 2025. The training complements a four-month online course covering conservation topics and life at sea.

During the voyage, participants will work alongside ORCA staff, delivering educational talks, collecting scientific data and guiding wildlife-watching sessions. The initiative aims to prepare participants to join ORCA’s global team of experts in protecting marine ecosystems.

“We are proud to extend our partnership with ORCA and offer our guests this unique and meaningful opportunity to engage with the organisation and its important work on a deeper level,” said Bob McGowan, chief experience officer at Ambassador. “Our guests will not only experience the beauty of the European coastline but also gain an understanding of the critical work being done to protect some of our ocean’s incredible creatures.”

“We believe that everyone who cares about whales and dolphins can take an active role in safeguarding their future,” added Steve Jones, director of fundraising and operations at ORCA. “Through our Ocean Conservationist Network, we provide individuals from all walks of life – teachers, finance professionals, police officers and more – with the tools and knowledge they need to protect marine life. It is through collaboration with valued partners such as Ambassador Cruise Line that we can inspire more people to get involved and make a difference.”

Guests sailing on the 16-night itinerary will have the chance to observe and support the training of future Ocean Conservationists while exploring various regions in Europe. They will contribute to nurturing the next generation of conservation experts, emphasizing the vital role public engagement plays in ocean conservation, the company stated.
